You have to decide for yourself. The NNT and the NNH speak for themselves. NNT thresholds of ≤5 and >15 to rule in and out therapies with large QALY gains have been suggested. While these might be open to interpretation, they are far removed from the numbers for statins.

It is also not my intention to tell readers what they should or should not do. My goal is to provide the information necessary to make an informed decision, whichever that may be. The "net good" that you mention is certainly there on the population level, but that's not what interests the individual who has to make a decision for themselves.
