It's interesting that you bring up HIIT in the resistance training scenario. I have successfully experimented with it and I'm applying it for myself. The volume-vs-load issue doesn't need to be an either-or. The evidence supports the idea that muscel strength responds better to higher loads, but muscle mass can be developed equally well or even better by low-load high-rep modes. You can apply reistance HIIT to both, also mixing dynamic with isometric modes (even in the same set).
