Well, one has to look in more detail what type of funding and particularly which positions of the project funding budgets will be affected. Currently a lot of funding goes into admin overheads which is in my eyes, counterproductive.

I have no experience with US funding agencies, but if my experience with German and EU funding is comparable, then I honestly wish we would have a bit of Trumpism here. My team and I did fine with funding until the Greens and DEI crazies inserted themselves into every funding agency. If I can't show tangible benefits of my CVD research for the climate and how it benefits minorities, I don't get any funding, no matter how valuable our project is to patients. It has become so bad that we stopped applying for government funding altogether. The ridiculous demands on application details and forecasts and what have you require a full-time staff just for doing the applications. That job is gone now, because it is not worth what it costs.
