Thanks, Vivi, for sharing your experience. I have always suspected that in the US the habit of adding sugar has gotten somehow out of hand. Unfortunately, until now, I never had a chance of living there. My work always pulled me to the East (Asia that is), but my wife (she is Singaporean-Chinese) frequently highlights the exorbitant amounts of sugar that goes into recipes of US cooks. Cutting those quantities down by half still makes a NewYork Cheese Cake pleasurably sweet. So, I can relate to your experience.
