I also always grapple with volume metrics (particularly when it comes to recipes). What the hell is a cup or a tablespoon? When I open my drawer, the tablespoons and teaspoons in there come in all sizes. The only measure worse than volume is the serving. That's a favourite of the US databases on food and nutrients. You always need to look up the servings sizes for everything you check there.
