I fully agree with your criticism of the myopic views scientists often take. I see this in medical specialists very often.

One more thing, when you look at the obesity rate increase starting from 1975, you can also parallel that with the increase in low-fat products available in the market. But we need to keep in mind that association does not prove causation.

And, yes, we, as a society, have a problem.
