CRC in your friend's age is extremely rare, which is why the associations only recommend screening from age 50 onwards (Grade A recommendation), and from age 45 - 50 as a Grade B recommendation. The health insurance companies' reimbursement rules typically follow these recommendations, which is why a colonoscopy outside that age range may not be covered.
