Your number is in all likelihood not for the risk of dying, but for the risk of suffering any event. It is well known that the FRS substantially overestimates the risk in men and women. So does its newer “competitor” the “pooled cohort equation” (PCE). So, your approach to the question of statins is quite practical. It would be interesting to know your HDL and consequently the LDL/HDL ratio.
You are also correct in pointing out that lifestyle remains outside of the FRS’ consideration. An obese, sedentary smoker who presents the same lipid values as you, will definitely carry a larger risk.
