The microbiome connection is still in its infancy as far as research is concerned. All there is to it right now are correlation studies, and studies that support the notion that what we eat or drink has an influence of the bacterial composition in our gut. But whether modification of an individual's microbiome results in measurable outcomes (such lower disease incidence) is still very speculative. Another complicating factor is the interindividual differences in compositions and responses.
