Thanks for your kind response. For a newly developed drug, the FDA typically makes a risk/benefit assessment. Given the NNH (for bleeding) and the much greater benefit of pain reduction (the major purpose of aspirin) it is hard to predict how the FDA would decide. After all, no drug is completely free from a certain potential for side effects.

By the way, I read your recent article on the importance of lifestyle changes for the prevention of aging associated disease that you discuss in the context of your mother's experience with stroke.
