You raise a very interesting question. On one hand, there is a systemic rejuvenation effect of strength training that goes beyond muscle itself. One of the key drivers of this effect is the activation of the mTORC-1 complex. On the other hand, rapamycin, an mTORC1 inhibitor seems to extend lifespan in rodent models. So, which is which in humans? In fact, rapamycin plus exercise don't seem to play nice together, a fact which I addressed in an earlier post. So, the life extensionist community which promotes rapamycin, might be in for a surprise in the future.
