Thanks for sharing your history and situation. I feel you, a TIA can be very frightening, and it should be taken seriously. It would be totally unethical for me to tell you not to take the statin. In fact, I encourage you to take it. As you said, take it for three months, see how you'll react to them. If you do not have any untoward side effects, you might well continue taking them. Why do I say so? Because once there are obvious risk factors or CVD conditions present, the risk/benefit ratio is in favor of statins.

The Valerian might or might not help with anxiety or sleep. But if you sleep well anyway, it might not make much of a difference. I have tried Valerian myself, but discontinued it due to a lack of noticeable effects.

I'm wondering a bit about the TIA episode. With which symptoms did it manifest?

I'm asking because your health and fitness background should keep the doctor's mind open for another, though less likely cause. I don't know whether you have heard of "migraines without migraine"? These are actually migraine episodes without the typical pain, but which affect vision, ability to speak, or may even affect limb control. They typically last only for a few minutes, but can be experienced similar to a TIA.
