Thanks, David.

The effects of calcium supplements on coronary artery calcium (CAC) aren't clear cut. While some studies suggest that calcium supplementation is associated with increased coronary artery calcification others report no significant difference in CAC progression between supplement users and non-users (e.g. The Framingham Offspring Study)

To confuse the subject even further, the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) reported that high total calcium intake was associated with decreased risk of incident atherosclerosis, particularly when achieved without supplements. However, calcium supplement use alone was associated with increased risk of incident CAC. These conflicting findings make it difficult for me to give you a definitive answer.
