One could expand the thought about the healthcare system's focus on sickness rather than health. Since our morbidity load is currently dominated by chronic diseases (we call them chronic because we can't cure them, obviously) we are operating like a car mechanic who tries to keep a damaged engine running without repair, as opposed to a mechanic who performs preemptive regular services to prevent the damages from happening in the first place.
And about "starting with the right population" I'm awed by the number of functionally fit and admirably healthy elders among the readers of, and responders to, my articles. That goes to show that "the right population" is among us and not at all elusive. Very motivating!
