Some parallels here. I am German, and have lived in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Australia for a total of 22 years (unfortunately not yet in the US). It certainly widens one's horizon beyond that of those who only one country, and who are misguided in thinking they know others from a holiday trip there.
