Just noticed, Sugabelle even left a note on my comment to your story:

"It's a ridiculous throwback that, as you can see from the story, is a façade covering clear dysfunction that the extended family knows means nothing but pretends does for the sake of false good appearances and propriety."

Those are the occasions where I wonder whether my English is up to snuff. I have no idea what she wants to say
