Just before I read your post, I was reading Evita Shami's first-person recollection of dealing with depression and suicidal ideation (https://medium.com/@evitashami/overcoming-depression-a-journey-of-hope-and-resilience-c7ec8da04b5a)
What she describes is the other side of the coin: when you want to die, but are not supposed to. The thought about the impact on one's loved ones is what pulled her (and probably many others) back from doing that last fateful step. Your observation and hers are a reminder of how much we are embedded in the lives of those around us.
