It's a gene variant that deals with the metabolism of acetaldehyde, the metabolic product of alcohol ingestion. It's that molecule, rather than alcohol itself, that gives alcohol its degree of toxicity. A certain variant of the gene makes people less able to deal with alcohol, so they typically abstain from it, because of the unpleasant side effects. That might be the cause of your aversion of alcohol.
