At the risk of disappointing you (but you asked for an honest opinion), the editor's choice of the "Fruit Thieves of Erddig House" wins hands-down. Here is why (and this a totally subjective view).

Erddig House gives the context without which your preferred version doesn't make me want to read the article. Somebody stole some fruits? Why should that bother me? There are tons of other more pressing and interesting issues than a garden lady's petty grievance. This is the reaction and emotion the title evoked in me.

Now, mention Erddig House and the attraction becomes a lot stronger. Not because I know Erddig House (I don't, hadn't heard of it before, as I'm not that familiar with UK countryside) . But the name alone suggests some importance, and the title hints at some sort of "organized crime" in a small and probably inconsequential dimension that the article itself might be a fun piece to read.

Forgive me for my blunt assessment, but I know the struggle of formulating the headlines, so I empathize with you.

BTW, there are online tools that might help you in this task. Here is one that I occasionally consult:

maybe it helps in future?
