Absolutely, Grant. Even diabetes is reversible during the first few years after diagnosis. Several other studies than the ones I mentioned have shown that most diabetes patients can revert to normal glucose metabolism. There are larger-scale studies that investigated the effectiveness of lifestyle change programs for T2DM reversal. For example, the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and Look AHEAD study. Their rather mediocre results are not due to any ineffectiveness of lifestyle change, but to lack of adherence and to lack of individualization. The lifestyle changes that are necessary to produce remission, can feel quite drastic for the individual patient, because the lifestyles that they have become accustomed to (and that lead to deranged glucose metabolism in the first place, are far removed from what is health promoting.
